cleaning on a rotating rota
An ADHD cleaning app for shift workers and nurses
short answer
Most cleaning apps are built on a weekly routine β this room on Mondays, that one on Thursdays. On a rotating rota there is no stable week for that to attach to, so the plan is wrong before you have used it. Nudge does not need a weekly schedule: by default a task comes back after you do it, and you can skip or snooze one when a shift runs long. It asks how much you have got today, then gives you one task sized to that answer. Four days away still gets you one task, not a wall of missed ones.
This page is for anyone whose week does not repeat: nurses, carers, hospitality, warehouse, emergency services, anyone on nights or a rolling rota. The problem is not discipline. It is that the tool assumes a calendar you do not have.
Built from the can't-start problem, not a perfect-home ideal
I build Nudge alone, and I live with executive dysfunction. I designed it around one tiny action, changing capacity, and restarting without a missed-day penaltyβthe cleaning support I wanted to use myself.
Why routine-based apps break on shifts
- A weekly plan assumes Tuesday is always Tuesday. On a rotating rota, this Tuesday is a night shift and next Tuesday is a day off.
- Most schedule-based apps recalculate what is due from the calendar, so a run of long shifts produces a screen full of things waiting the moment you get home.
- Coming back after four nights is the exact moment the app needs to be easy to open, and a backlog is the exact thing that makes it hard.
- Post-shift energy is not a number the calendar knows about. Nine at night after a double is a different person from nine at night on a rest day.
None of those apps are badly made. A weekly routine is genuinely the right model for a lot of households β the comparison hub says so plainly and names the ones that do it well. It is just a model that assumes a repeating week.
What it asks instead

it asks what today is like
How much energy you have and how long you have. Not which day of the week it is.

a task sized to that
One step, the room it is in, and roughly how long it takes.
What this looks like on a real rota
Before a late shift with twenty minutes spare: open it, say twenty minutes, get one task that fits in twenty minutes. After four nights: open it, say you are running on empty, get something small enough to actually be done. On a day off with more in the tank: say so, and the task is bigger.
The part that matters for shift work is what is absent. There is no backlog waiting, no room that drifted while you were at work, and no weekly plan sitting there half-finished. The app does not know or care how long it has been since you opened it.
When starting is the problem rather than choosing, Start Rescue names one physical step and reads it aloud, which works better than reading anything at the end of a twelve-hour shift.

Questions
Does Nudge use a weekly cleaning schedule?
Only if you want one. By default a task comes back after you do it, not on a set weekday. You can pin a task to certain days if that suits you, and skip or snooze it when a shift runs long. Nudge asks how much you have got today, then gives you one task sized to that answer. The same question works at 7am and at 11pm after a double.
What happens after four shifts in a row without opening it?
Nothing turns red and no list is waiting for you. The streak covers one missed day a week, so four days away starts it again from one, unless you took a break before the run of shifts. You open it, say how much you have got, and get one task. Mochi's Place keeps every room you have filled in, and a gap takes none of them away.
Can I clean in the ten minutes before I leave?
Yes β that is what the time question is for. Tell it you have five, ten or twenty minutes and the task you get is one that genuinely fits, rather than the first item on a longer list.
Does it send notifications in the middle of my sleep?
You choose the reminder time during setup, and it can be changed later in Settings. If your rota moves, move the time β there is no penalty attached to either.
Is Nudge free?
No. It is a subscription for iPhone. You can try one tiny task before you choose a plan. Weekly is $2.99 with no trial. Monthly is $6.99 and Annual is $49.99, and both include a 7-day free trial for eligible new subscribers.
How we checked, and when
Nudge's own plan details and the competitor scheduling models described here was read on 2026-09-15 from the company's own website or its current App Store listing.
